Leaders Are Very Special Humans

Dearest Leader,

There’s something about the final weeks of summer. The lake is still warm and the days are still generous, yet here in Minnesota, we can feel fall edging its way in. The light arrives a little later, leaves a little earlier, and reminds us that another season is on its way.

Late summer gives us a small window to step back and consider what our people need from us next.

You, dear leader, are a very special human—not because you always have the right answers, but because you care deeply about what happens to the people around you. You make decisions with imperfect information, solve problems, hold the vision and carry responsibilities others may never fully see.

At its heart, leading people requires being genuinely interested in them. Good leaders take time to understand what gives someone energy, where confidence is growing, what may be getting in the way and which responsibilities that person is ready to carry next. They communicate clearly, listen for what isn’t being said and remember that results and relationships aren’t competing priorities.

That is what makes leaders such special humans.

So, before Q4 arrives, what does your team need to understand? Where are expectations still fuzzy? Who needs greater ownership, feedback or encouragement? What conversation could create clarity now, before everyone becomes very busy and somehow less aligned?

To help, I created a simple resource called Five Conversations, with ideas for intentional conversations you can have with the people you lead as you move into fall.

Before summer slips away, take the walk. Sit by the water. Leave a little white space in the day—and then use some of that space to get to know someone better and begin one powerful conversation. Maybe two.

Perhaps that’s why leaders are such special humans: their influence lives on in the people they take the time to know, encourage and develop.

Love and Belief,

Lori

Leadership Support For What's Next

Every leader—and every organization—moves through seasons when the right support can make all the difference. Here are three ways we can work together.

Executive Coaching

Executive coaching is a trusted place to think out loud, tell the truth and see what can be hard to see from inside your own leadership. I work with executives, business owners and rising leaders to connect the patterns, people dynamics, strengths and decisions in front of them—so they can lead with greater clarity, courage and influence, without becoming someone they’re not.

Leadership Development Partnership

A Leadership Development Partnership goes beyond a one-time workshop or training. I work alongside CEOs, HR leaders and leadership teams to see what’s really happening across the organization—connecting the people, patterns, strengths and business realities that influence how work gets done. Together, we develop stronger leaders, clearer communication and greater ownership, building leadership capacity that lasts long after I leave the room.

CEO Roundtable

A confidential community for CEOs and business owners who want a trusted place to think honestly, learn from other experienced leaders and become even stronger stewards of their organizations.

Not sure which kind of support would be most helpful? Schedule a Leadership Clarity Call and tell me what you’re navigating. I’d be glad to help you think through what might fit.
