Leading with Space, Not Noise

January asks us to slow down before we speed up.

The year began with a full Wolf Moon—quiet, sparse, illuminating, and contained. I’ve been returning to it as a leadership reminder:

great leaders create space before they create strategy.

Space to see clearly.

Space to hear what actually matters.

Space to decide what not to carry forward.

In the quiet, clarity emerges—like on a walk in the woods or in the shower. You know the feeling.

This January, I'm including the invitation for a simple pause—especially if you’re feeling full, stretched, or slightly reactive. Or if your team isn’t quite as clear or ready as you are (speaking from experience).

The Clarity Pause (10 minutes)

Ask yourself:

  • What is asking for clarity right now—not urgency?

  • What am I carrying that isn’t actually mine to solve?

  • Where do I need to create more space—for myself or my team?

Then sit with one final question:

  • If I led from calm clarity instead of momentum, what would shift?

No fixing.

No action plan—yet.

Just space. This is often where the next best move quietly reveals itself.

This is the work I love most in executive coaching—creating space for leaders to think clearly and lead with intention.

If this practice is familiar, you know its power—return to it.

If it’s new (hello fellow Commanders, Activators, Ideationers, Competitors, and Arrangers), I’d love to hear what you notice.

With intention and best wishes for the New Year,

Lori

This time of year often clarifies how leaders are balancing execution and development. Great leadership requires both — delivering results and continuing to grow — and January has a way of revealing where more intention or space might be needed.

I tend to work with leaders who want to strengthen how they lead, not just what they deliver. Leaders who are thoughtful, capable, and navigating real complexity — at work and at home — and who are motivated and responsive to development. If that resonates, you’ll likely find value in the January opportunities I’m offering.

I also have limited space for new executive coaching relationships in the year ahead, for leaders ready to invest in deeper, sustained growth.

And, as always, I’m here for you — with intention, a big heart, and genuine belief in you.

Warmly,
Lori
